I need to find a new way to get around...

Gas... is up. My bank account is down. I may need to find a new mode of transport.

We've hit over $1.31 a litre and even though my car's not THAT bad on gas, I am suddenly paying over 50 dollars to fill a car that should take 30.

Searching the net, I found some fuel efficiency tips that I am going to try and use. But I'm not ruling out getting a scooter or something.

-Drive at the speed limit or a bit slower. The Canadian Automobile Association says driving at 120 km/h burns 20 per cent more fuel than at 100 km/h, while dropping down to 90 km/h saves another 10 per cent.

-Use cruise control to keep highway speeds constant, and keep the windows closed to reduce air friction.

-Air-conditioners can boost fuel consumption by 20 per cent, so use the car's flow-through ventilation instead.

-Maintain proper tire pressure, as under-inflation wastes fuel.

-Anticipate traffic ahead to avoid sudden braking and acceleration. Fast starts and hard braking can sharply increase fuel use.

-Remove unnecessary weight - items you carry but do not use - along with non-essential add-ons such as roof racks that can break the air flow.

-Reduce idling.

-Plan your route to avoid heavy traffic areas, road construction and hilly terrain, if possible.

-Shift manual transmissions gently but quickly to the higher gears where the engine works more efficiently and uses less fuel.

-For automatic transmissions, use overdrive at higher speeds to reduce the engine's workload.
