Mr. Hockey Stops In

Saskatchewan's most famous athlete, Gordie Howe stopped into the station today before his fundraising dinner tonight at Dakota Dunes for Kid Sport.

He was freakin' cool. I extended my hand for a handshake and he grabbed my arm and pulled me in for a bearhug, "C'mere!" Everyone who met him loved him.

This takes me to my thought of the day. This isn't to be disrespectful or anything, but I love old people. I think if I were to do something other than radio, it would be an activity coordinator at a retirement village. Part of it probably has to do with the fact that I lost my two grandmas in the last year or two, and so now when I meet a nice old person, it just makes my day.

I hope when I'm old, I'm one of the nice old ladies who call people dear, and when someone tells a dirty joke, I'll say, "oh, you!" with a good-natured slap in that granny-ish I-don't-know-my-own-strength kind of way.

Not one of the cranky ones who used to yell at me about the bunker conditions when I cut grass at a golf course.

I bet Gordie's a great grandpa. Nothing better than grandparents. Cherish 'em while you've got 'em.
