The Thrill of The Race
There's definately a few types of sports fans. The kind that just sticks to watching the biggies. NHL, NFL, CFL, maybe some NBA. The kind that only watch local- Huskies, Riders, Blades.
Then there's the kind that watch EVERYTHING... ahem... Jer. Especially now that our house is an HD house, my boyfriend and I also tune into PGA, UFC, LPGA, tennis, college b-ball, college football, AL and NL baseball, soccer, NASCAR, Olympics (all the big events, and more obscure ones like diving- yet I don't get to watch figure skating in the winter) oh, and did I mention horse racing?
The sad part is... I've actually grown to enjoy watching most of those. I am a shell of my former self.
With the Bellmont coming up this weekend- I'll be looking forward to seeing if Big Brown will capture the elusive Triple Crown. Only 11 horses have done it, and there hasn't been one for like, 35 years. There's something about the pre-show... and then the excitement of that minute when anything could happen.
In fact, any race is exciting. Did you hear about this guy? 6-foot-5, 21 year old Usain Bolt from Jamaica ran a world record 9.72 seconds for the 100 metres in New York on Saturday night.
I would like to see Bolt (great runner's name) take on South Africa's Oscar Pistorius (a.k.a Blade Runner.) This guy has these the crazy boomerang prosthetic legs because his legs were amputated for medical reasons, and people say he has an unfair advantage if they let him try and qualify for the Olympics.
VS.
A televised race between them would be cool... I wouldn't even complain watching it.
