We're a bunch of Fatty McGee's!

So here are the results for you from Stats Canada's latest survey released yesterday.

Natl. Average of People Overweight = 32.6%

Saskatoon Average = 49.0%!!!!!!!

Natl Average of People Obese = 16.0%

Sasaktoon Average = 19.6%!!!! (That's 1 in 5)

What do you make of this?  Do you agree?  I got a few thoughts on the subject.  First, it wouldn't surprise me.  In my goings on in the city, I tend to see alot of people out and being active.  But I also know how hard of a struggle it is to stay fit!  I think we're pretty good for rollerblading, biking, walking, etc.  I mean we have that gorgeous river to go along.  But, I also know that we got alot of restaurants here so fast food is always an option.  And is it just me or did serving size catapult in the last say 10 years?  I mean super sizing of meals aside, just normal everyday size helpings of food has gotten huge.  We just seem to eat so much more!  I don't know?  I really don't!  I don't think we're the fattest city by far but it's tough to argue these statistics.

I know for me, I always feel like I am ass backwards.  Everyone says "we're fat cause it's so cold in the winter what is there to do?"  But for me, I slim down in the winters because there's nothing to do.  I get in a good routine of gym, go home, don't go out.  In the summer is where I tend to pork out a little and gain a few pounds.  'Cause sure I'm out doing stuff, but it seems with people in Saskatoon those activities include a couple beers later, or a fast food meal.  And as a result of going out and doing more, the worst offense, is I can't fit it any gym time!  I mean look at my sked, go golfing, well you gotta have a few beers with that and then the casual 10th hole hot dog, etc.  Yeah I'm on a softball team but again, deep fried fast food reward along with a beer or two after, and again, no gym time.  It's a bad cycle!  And look out cause the old Exhibition and it's sugary glory is on it's way to town!  Is anyone else like this?  I look forward to the fall so I can start to slim down again.

Cheers, gregger@rock102rocks.com

PS - Here's a classic Adam Sandler bit to give you a laugh about all this.  "Fatty McGee."  Maybe the laughing will help burn a couple calories.

mmm, delicious fat. OR NOT.

man... i heart adam sandler. so very much.
and yeah its pretty sickening how fat we are kinda getting. your weight is something like 20% exercise, 80% diet... and that is people's downfall! people don't put on weight if they simply listen to their body and eat sensibly. well... i guess there's no end in sight for the nursing shortage.

Saskatoon = FAT

It is so true with the amount of over weight people there are here in this city! There's always long line ups at drive thru's like Tim Horton's and the amount of sugar people consume in their coffees, donuts, etc on their way to work because it's convenient! People have to get off their BEHINDS and think about their future health! Plan your healthy breakfasts...if that means getting up earlier in the morning. And prepare healthy suppers with your family, your children will only immitate your habits, which is the case in this study!

Its a thing called LAZINESS, that we have to get rid of!
