No Fish For You! (Saskatoon Roller Derby League is underway!)

That was me on Tobin Lake ... last year. This year, I got shut out! No fish for me. Shack, Watson and I were lucky enough to get to go up to Nipawin for the kick off to their Pike Festival. It's called "Media Days" and they basically invite a tonne of media people up to go golfing and fishing and when we catch some big lunker pikes, we tag them. If someone catches one of those tagged fish this summer, they got some huge prizes like a boat and trailer, ATV's, etc. It's kinda a big deal. But for whatever reason this year, the only thing I caught was a buzz from the beers we were having on the boat. Our guides George and Tony were a riot and bugged us mercilessly for not grabbing the leeches. So I'm a sissy, so what! Haven't you ever seen Stand By Me?!
I gotta tell you though, gas prices are nutty, but Nipawin is only 2.5 hours away and its an incredible area if you've never been. The Evergreen Golf Course is in pristine condition (you gotta see these greens, it's like a PGA event). Another new couse has just opened you can check out, and I got sweet tweet, but people were hauling in 20 pound Pikes easy! I totally recommend it. (Thanks again to Doug and Sherry, the organizers of this event who treat us like absolute gold! I can't wait for the 40th Annual next year already!)

And boy oh boy do I have to salute the 40+ gals of the SRDL. Yes Saskatoon, you've got a Roller Derby League and it's an absolute riot! On Saturday night, again Shack and Watson and me were asked to announce their inaugural bout. It was at the North End Soccer Centre, and 375 tickets completely sold out. And they did not dissapoint! A broken elbow, a broken nose, some huge hits, some fast action. Seriously, I'll admit to being a little on the fence about it, but after it was over, all 3 of us were like man, that was a lot of fun! I am sure with the initial success of that night, more are already being planned to start in the fall. And you have to come watch it! We did our best to call the play, but sometimes we just cheesed it up. My "I haven't seen that since the Berlin episode of '17!" And Shack's accidental "Kiss My Jazz just took a big dump!" Oh man were we laughing. Great job girls! Thanks for making history with us. I could really see this league taking off and becoming a huge sport in the future and I'm really proud to say I was there on the first night. Now, hopefully they'll take it easy on us next week for our 2nd sports challenge!

i vote for vegetarian.
fish are overrated. plus they're full of heavy metals these days. once, when i was like 12 or something, i caught a fish. we dragged him alongside the boat and i named him fred... my sister evidently got rather attached to him, and couldn't handle watching my dad skin/cut the poor guy up (and duh, watch him die). ever since then we've both kinda been anti-fish people. i think derby's a way better way to spend the weekend anyways, don't you?
don't argue... mr. hockey gear.... haha
