Hangin' On Broadway

No, it's not just for hippies. Although, hippies are more than welcome. It's for everyone. All ages. All races. All classes. But more importantly, all music. In one single evening you can enjoy rock, pop, classical, and rap in a mostly live atmosphere. I think that everyone can agree, in order to experience the Saskatoon music scene, you need to be on Broadway.

Every now and then, a few of us will book the next day off and start a trek down Broadway. Starting on the south end we'll hit up the rock bars. The Roxy (when it's open) and Bud's are great impromptu concert venues. You don't have to plan to go. You just know that someone will be playing. Local or from abroad. Loud, grungy, and all accepting, they are what the rock scene is about. Don't look to be a critic heading into these bars though. Critical acclaim can be lacking with some of these bands. But that isn't what they're about. These are just good time rock bars. Period.

Moving further down the street, the Yard and Flagon is a must. Usually on the rooftop patio. Not only great for looking at cleavage, but an awesome place to sit for a pint. You know, the kind of place that you sweat in the sun, so you feel like you deserve the beer. Not to mention great food.

Onward to Lydia's. I tend to hide out and play pool as soon as I get in. But, head upstairs to enjoy live music. It tends to be a little trendier. This is the critics bar. If you've been to Ness Creek, you need to be at Lydias.

Now, every now and again when I'm feeling youthful, I'll slide over to "The Hose". But, you gotta be able to keep up with the kids. The crowds tend to be young and rowdy. But, if you're up for a party, it can be a blast. Watch the stairs though. I've taken the occasional spill. Drunk people + Stairs= Epic wipeouts.

Then, it's off to Amigo's. Honestly, one of my favorite spots. Not only is it a great live music venue, but the food is awesome and the crowd is friendly. Not to mention they have a picture of Craig Silliphant on the wall. That's right. THE Craig Silliphant. "Craig The Movie Geek".

Some of my fondest Saskatoon memories are on Broadway. Some forgotten due to too many pints.  What are your best broadway memories? Leave them below.
