Like Em or Not, They're One Bad Son and They Bring It

The critics were silenced for about an hour on Friday night at the Rock 102 Spring Invasion. One Bad Son ripped through old favorites and new alike. With heads bobbing throughout TCU Place to the beat of "Sunfire" and "Alive In Texas". New ones like "Rustbucket" and "Retribution Blues" gave Saskatoon a taste as to what we can expect from a new album in the works.

One Bad Son has grown ten-fold over the last 3 years. Starting off as a group rough around the edges with a heart and head full of dream shows, to business savvy and playing those dream gigs. Opening for Buckcherry, Godsmack, and many more, they've managed to catch the ear of many in the industry. Including Danny Craig of Default, their new producer. Even Crash Karma payed attention, with Mike Turner sitting side stage Friday night nodding his head in approval as they ripped through their set.

Musically, they are tighter than ever. Kurt Dahl is like a metronome, keeping constant beat along with Adam on bass. The other Adam (LOL) plays his catchy riffs in classic slouch form, while Shane jumps around on stage like a madman with a classic Axl Rose influence. They've come a long way from the four guys I had in studio 4 years back. I still remember Kurt using a cardboard box for his kick. Classic.

With all this being said, they do have their critics, whom they seem to embrace. Listen, every group with any bit of success will have people who don't like them. (As I'm sure we'll see in the comments below), but the beauty thing is, we don't live in China or pinko Russia. We have a choice as to who we listen to and see live. Saskatoon can be a very harsh city for local groups, and One Bad Son realizes this. But if they aren't liked, how is it that they get people to their shows and picking up their albums? OBS is a group that can get along playing in a ballroom or schmoozing in a boardroom. They don't want to eat Kraft dinner and crackers all their life. (although it is tempting)

OBS is ready. Heading out to Vancouver to finish a few demos up and letting labels take a listen. We wish them well. Now get me some crackers and Kraft Dinner.
